Cape May Lighthouse, New Jersey
It blew a pleasant breeze
And the man upon the lookout cried:
"A Light upon the lee!"
They reported to the Captain and
these words did he say -
"Cheer up my sailor lads,
Its the light on old Cape May.”
Located at the southern tip of New Jersey marking the entrance into Delaware Bay, Cape May over the years has been home to 3 lighthouses.
In 1986 the tower was leased to the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) who had restored many historic buildings in Cape May. MAC raised funds to restore the lighthouse and opened it to the public in 1988. They continue to maintain the lighthouse and allow people to climb the 199 cast iron stairs to obtain a beautiful view of Cape May and Delaware Bay. For more info see www.capemaymac.org
