Great Captain Island Lighthouse
Great Captain Island is the largest of a group of three islands in Long Island Sound about a mile offshore from Greenwich, Connecticut. Ownership of the island was disputed for many years between Connecticut and New York until 1880 when a court ruled in favor of Connecticut.

During Prohibition rumrunners used Great Captain Island as a base of operations. Coast Guardsmen found empty whiskey cases and alcohol cans near the lighthouse. The Lighthouse Keeper was questioned as to whether he was involved in the illegal activities, but nothing was ever proven.
