New London Ledge Lighthouse, Connecticut
The New London Ledge Lighthouse is home to perhaps the most famous lighthouse ghost, Ernie. This is a picture of ‘Ernie’ in his room. He was a Keeper stationed at the light in the early 30’s who discovered his wife had run off with the captain of the Block Island Ferry. A distraught Ernie climbed to the top of the lighthouse, slit his throat and fell to his death on the rocks below. Since then Keepers have told stories of doors opening & closing, the sounds of steps on the stairway, rearranged furniture and cold spots in rooms. It seems Ernie’s spirit is tethered to the lighthouse and continues his watch.
