Moloka'i Lighthouse, Moloka'i, Hawai'i
This is the view of Kalaupapa from the top of the cliffs before hiking down. The Moloka’i Lighthouse is visible right center. For 2 years the Lighthouse Board had requested funding to build a lighthouse but Congress had not appropriated the monies. So a temporary fixed red lens lantern was established in 1906 sixty-four feet above sea level. Famous Hawai’ian lightkeeper James M. Keanu was assigned to the station.
