Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, Maine
Located on the 'quiet side' of Mount Desert Island, this lighthouse is located at the southwestern tip of the island. The original fog signal at the station was a hand rung bell. This was replaced in 1876 by a pyramidal fog bell tower which was then replaced by a brick fog signal building in 1897. A 4,000 pound bell was suspended outside of the fog signal building.
