Egg Rock Lighthouse, Maine
In August 1903 the U.S. battleship Massachusetts struck a ledge off Egg Rock leading the Light House Board to replace the fog bell with a powerful fog horn in 1904. The installation of the fog horn instigated complaints from rich neighbors in Bar Harbor. The Light House Board investigated the complaints and changed the position of the horn to reduce the level of noise landward to appease the residents.
