Marblehead, Massachusetts is home to the only iron skeleton tower lighthouse in the northeastern United States, which makes it unique. During the early 1800’s the area north of Boston was busy with maritime commerce in its rocky harbors. In 1831 the citizens of Marblehead petitioned Congress to build a lighthouse to mark the entrance to their harbor.
