Barnegat Lighthouse, New Jersey

Located on the northern end of Long Beach Island, New Jersey, the name ‘Barnegat’ was given to the area by Dutch explorers. The name means ‘Inlet of Breakers’ due to the shoaling in the area.

The new 163-foot lighthouse was completed and lit on January 1, 1859 and housed a 1st order Fresnel lens in its lantern which was visible for 19 miles.
