Hereford Inlet Lighthouse, North Wildwood, New Jersey
In 1938 while Ferdinand Heinzman served as Keeper a fire broke out in his daughter’s bedroom closet while he was outside painting. Coast Guard men at the Life Saving Station alerted Heinzman that smoke was pouring out of a window and he grabbed an extinguisher and attempted to put out the fire. The heat drove him from the house and he climbed up a ladder and put out the fire from a window and saved the lighthouse.
