Cape May Lighthouse, New Jersey

The wind it blew from Sou'sou'east,
It blew a pleasant breeze
And the man upon the lookout cried:
"A Light upon the lee!"
They reported to the Captain and
these words did he say -
"Cheer up my sailor lads,
Its the light on old Cape May.”
Located at the southern tip of New Jersey marking the entrance into Delaware Bay, Cape May over the years has been home to 3 lighthouses.

The lighthouse was completed and lit in October 1823. An inspection report in 1838 stated that there were problems with the settling of the foundation. In addition, the land around the lighthouse was slowly eroding away so that by 1847 the tower was surrounded by water at high tide.
