Cape May Lighthouse, New Jersey
It blew a pleasant breeze
And the man upon the lookout cried:
"A Light upon the lee!"
They reported to the Captain and
these words did he say -
"Cheer up my sailor lads,
Its the light on old Cape May.”
Located at the southern tip of New Jersey marking the entrance into Delaware Bay, Cape May over the years has been home to 3 lighthouses.
The First Order lens with 16 flash panels from the second tower was installed into the new lantern room. Keeper Foster lit the lamp on October 31, 1859. The 1847 tower remained standing until 1862 when the top was dismantled and the lower 10 feet was roofed over to be used as a storage building.
