Cape May Lighthouse, New Jersey
It blew a pleasant breeze
And the man upon the lookout cried:
"A Light upon the lee!"
They reported to the Captain and
these words did he say -
"Cheer up my sailor lads,
Its the light on old Cape May.”
Located at the southern tip of New Jersey marking the entrance into Delaware Bay, Cape May over the years has been home to 3 lighthouses.
** The view north from the gallery ** In June of 1933 the Lighthouse Service decided to automate the light upon its electrification. Keeper Harry Palmer retired with a full pension and was allowed to remain at the station with his wife and two daughters as custodian of the lighthouse property.
