Alki Point Lighthouse, Washington

Alki Point forms the southern boundary of Elliot Bay, separating it from Puget Sound. It was near this location that Seattle’s first settlers arrived in 1851. It has long served as an important landmark for ships sailing to and from the port of Seattle.

In 1962 the Fresnel lens was replaced with a rotating aerobeacon. In 1984 the lighthouse was automated and a VRB-25 modern optic was installed in 1998. The original Fresnel lens is now on display at the Admiralty Head Lighthouse. Two keepers’ dwellings now serve as Coast Guard housing for senior officers and their families.
