North Head Lighthouse in Ilwaco, Washington lies near the mouth of the Columbia River, approximately two miles north of Cape Disappointment. The 1856 Cape Disappointment Light was obscured from ships approaching the river mouth from the north prompting the building of North Head Light after several shipwrecks. The lighthouse went into service on May 16, 1898.
